In the Midst of Global Crisis, Your Gifts Give Priority to Education.

Since the global crisis began in November 2008, donors like you have given almost $300,000 to support the Kosovo American Education Fund, demonstrating your devotion to education. Your generosity comes amid an economic crisis in which global levels of giving have dropped.

“For many programs around the world, donors are giving less,” said William Brown, Vice President of Development.  “That’s what makes it all the more impressive that giving to KAEF has increased.  It shows that donors understand that the future of Kosovo depends on education.”

Your support has proven crucial to the success of KAEF.  While many scholarship programs around the world were forced to cut back on the number of scholarships they offered, KAEF actually expanded in 2009, awarding nine fellowships for the first time in its history.

Since 2005, your generosity has helped to provide 48 fellowships to Kosovo’s most talented young leaders.  Those that have completed their academic programs have returned to Kosovo, where they are working to improve their country.

As the economy recovers, your donations will continue to play a vital role in KAEF, and, through KAEF, in the prosperity of Kosovo.

Your Support Expands the Program to Largest Size Ever.

With your generous support, The Kosovo American Education Fund officially awarded nine fellowships at a reception in Prishtina, Kosovo on Friday, May 28th.  KAEF staff officially recognized the seven fellows who have accepted the fellowship to date, as well as the nineteen Kosovar businesses and organizations who have supported the program.  The Minister of Education joined the guests at the reception in congratulating the fellows, and also in thanking donors.

Your generous contribution to the KAEF program will support the following students in the upcoming year:

Emira Ajeti (Bentley University), Shkelqim Daci (Minnesota State),  Jeta Krasniqi (Johns Hopkins), Arben Limani (Kent Law School at Illinois Inst. of Tech.), Agon Maliqi (Duke), Mentor Mehmedi (Bowling Green), and Besian Mustafa (City University of New York).  Liridon Mavriqi and Vatra Qehaja were also awarded fellowships but could not accept them for professional and / or personal reasons.

Selim Selimi Honored as Student Speaker at Duke.

One of the fellows supported by your donations to KAEF, Mr. Selim Selimi, was chosen as the student speaker for graduation ceremonies at Duke’s esteemed Sanford School of Public Policy.  He was selected for the honor from 93 graduate students. On May 15, he spoke in front of 240 students from 21 countries, their parents, and the faculty of Duke.

Speaking both of his time in the United States, and of his homeland of Kosovo, Mr. Selimi said:  “We have learned that change does not have a color, race, religion or social status.  It is best achieved from the bottom up, through grassroots mobilization… During these past two years, we were able to see that no matter what part of the world our countries are in, or how far apart we live, we all face similar challenges in terms of development and poverty reduction… Development is not a local or regional concern.  It is a global concern that cannot be achieved without alleviating poverty.”

The KAEF Application for 2011 is now officially open. You can help KAEF by spreading the word to friends, family, employees, colleagues, and others in your network. Applications are due on September 6th.  Candidates should expect to spend significant time preparing their application, which includes written essays and recommendations.  Applicants can go to the following web address to begin their application:

Në kohërat e krizës globale, përkrahja juaj i jep prioritet edukimit.

Që nga fillimi i krizës globale në nëntor të vitit 2008, përkrahësit si ju dhanë shumën e $300,000 për ta përkrahur Fondin Kosovaro Amerikan për Edukim, duke demonstruar kështu devotshmërinë tuaj ndaj edukimit. Zemërgjërësia juaj vjen në mes të krizës globale, në kohën kur nivelet globale të përkrahjeve uleshin vazhdimisht.

“Për shumë programe përreth botës, donatorët janë duke dhënë me pak”,  that William Brown, zëvendës kryetar për zhvillim. “Ajo çka është më interesante, është fakti se përkrahja ndaj KAEF-it është rritur. Kjo tregon se donatorët e kuptojnë se ardhmëria e Kosovës varet nga edukimi”.

Përkrahja juaj është treguar të jetë thelbësore për suksesin e KAEF-it. Përderisa shumë programe që ofrojnë bursa janë detyruar të zvogëlojnë numrin e bursistëve, KAEF-i  në të kundërtën, për herë të parë në historinë e tij, është zgjeruar në vitin 2009 duke ndarë nëntë bursa.

Nga viti 2005, zemërgjërësia e juaj ka ndihmuar që të ndahen 48 bursa për liderët e rinj kosovarë. Bursistët që e kanë kryer programin janë kthyer në Kosovë dhe veprojnë për ta zhvilluar shtetin e tyre.

Me përmirësimin e ekonomisë, donacionet e juaja do të luajnë rol jetësor për KAEF-in, dhe nëpërmjet KAEF-it, ky rol do të jetë jetësor edhe për Kosovën.

Përkrahja juaj e zgjeron programin në numrin më të madh deri më tani.
Me perkrahjen tuaj bujare, Fondi Kosovaro Amerikan për Edukim zyrtarisht i ndau bursat  për nëntë bursistë në një gosti të mbajtur në Prishtinë, Kosovë, të premten me datën 28 maj 2010. Stafi i KAEF-it zyrtarisht i prezentoi edhe shtatë bursistët që morrën pjesë në gosti, por gjithashtu edhe nëntëmbëdhjetë bizneset kosovare që e kanë përkrahur programin. Ministri i Arsimit, iu bashkëngjit të ftuarve në gosti për t’i përgezuar bursistët dhe gjithashtu për t’i falenderuar përkrahësit.

Përkrahja juaj bujare do t’i mbështet studentët në vijim, në vitin që vjen:  Emira Ajeti (Master në Administrim të Biznesit), Shkëlqim Daci (Planifikim Urban), Jeta Krasniqi (Ekonomi dhe Politika Publike), Arben Limani (Studim mbi Ligjiin Ndërkombëtar), Agon Maliqi (Politika Publike), Mentor Mehmedi (Financa Publike), dhe Besian Mustafa (Master ne Administrim të Biznesit).  Liridon Mavriqi dhe Vatra Qehaja gjithashtu ishin fitues të burses së KAEF-it, mirëpo ata nuk e pranuan bursën për shkaqe personale dhe profesionale.

Njoftohuni me shtatë nga bursistët e KAEF-it për vitin 2010, të mbështetur nga përkrahja juaj. Duke filluar nga e majta: Shkëlqim Daci, Jeta Krasniqi, Arben Limani, Agon Maliqi, Mentor Mehmedi, Emira Ajeti dhe Besian Mustafa. Pa përkrahjen tuaj, këta bursistë nuk do të kishin mundur të merrnin pjesë në programin KAEF.

Selim Selimi nderohet si studenti folës në “Duke”

Një nga bursistët e përkrahur nga ju nëpërmjet donacioneve dhënë KAEF-it, Z. Selim Selimi, është zgjedhur si folës në ceremoninë e diplomimit në shkollën me reputacion të “Duke”, shkollën Sanford të Politikave Publike. Ai është zgjedhur për këtë nder nga 93 student të nivelit master. Me 15 maj, ai iu drejtua 240 studentëve nga 21 shtete, prindërve, si dhe profesorëve të “Duke”.

Duke folur për kohën e tij në SHBA, si dhe për vendlindjen e tij Kosovën, Z. Selimi tha: “Ne mësuam se ndryshimi nuk ka ngjyrë, racë, fe, apo status shoqëror. Ajo arrihet më së miri duke filluar nga poshtë-lart, duke e mobilizuar popullin… Gjatë këtyre dy viteve, ne kishim mundësin të shohim se pa marrë parasysh në cilën pjesë të botës shtetet tona gjinden, apo pa marrë parasysh sa larg ne jetojmë nga njëri tjetri, të gjithë përballemi me pengesa të ngjajshme në aspektin e zhvillimit dhe uljes së varfërisë… Zhvillimi nuk është brengë lokale apo regjionale. Por, është brengë globale që nuk mund të arrihet pa e eliminuar varfërinë”.

Bursist i KAEF-it, Selim Selimi, buzëqesh dhe pranon urimet nga shokët e klasës duke ecur drejt mbajtjes së fjalimit të diplomimit në shkollën Sanford për Politika Publike të “Univesitetit Duke”. Z. Selimi ishte zgjedhur si folës nga 93 studentë të nivelit master, dhe ka mbajtur fjalimin e tij para 240 studentëve nga 21 shtete, familjet e tyre si dhe profesorët e shkollës Sanford.
