KAEF Fellow Albulena Basha (Kosovo, Iowa State University) was invited to attend the 2018 World Food Prize Laureate Award Ceremony held on October 18, 2018, in Des Moines, Iowa. The World Food Prize is considered as the equivalent of a Nobel prize in agriculture. Albulena was nominated by Iowa State University professor Curtis Youngs, and she was selected to attend based upon her status as an international graduate student fellow from a developing nation whose studies are focused on sustainable agriculture, economics, and rural development. The World Food Prize laureates this year were Dr. Lawrence Haddad and Dr. David Nabarro. These laureates were recognized for their global impacts on combating hunger and malnutrition.
Albulena personally met Dr. Haddad, and they discussed how aid efforts of developed countries could be more successful by changing from a “first-world problem” perspective to the perspective of the hungry and malnourished people in developing nations.
