"Don't know why the effort, it's not going to get any better in here. Why haven't you stayed in the States?" - It is precisely the expression that Brikena hears the most since her return to her native Kosova. It is this expression, which Brikena does not want to hear any more. She is strongly dedicated to her work in order to keep the motivation and hope alive, both in herself and her people.
Brikena Avdyli was born and raised in Pristina. She finished her undergraduate degree in Management and Public Policy at the American University in Kosova. With her work and ambition, Ms. Avdyli won a scholarship from the Kosova American Education Fund to pursue her master's studies in America. Her master's studies were focused in Youth Development in Post-Conflict Countries.
Brikena's work, upon returning to Kosova, focuses in cases that have to do with the marginalized groups, including children, women, as well as people with special needs. She explains how, even though we all have equal rights, in reality these groups have more challenges in achieving their needs.
"This is the reason that I work in this field, because I think that it is the right of us all to have equal opportunities to achieve success if we work hard."
Brikena gave her contribution in this field through her work with the Autism Association, Initiative for Progress (INPO), and then International Fund for Electoral System (IFES) where she leads an inclusion project which focuses on making the electoral system more accessible for people with special needs as well as increase the number of females as electoral staff. Additionally, Brikena runs the Youth Council of the US Embassy in Kosova, a council that is made up by 30 youngsters, and with the support of the US Embassy implements different activities that are for the benefit of the society.
